Lakeshore Lacrosse Club

Handbook 2020

OVERVIEW

The Lakeshore Lacrosse Team is a high school club team, but aligns with all WIAA rules and by-laws.  The team consists of student athletes who attend primarily Shorewood and Whitefish Bay High Schools. The team also includes players that attend a school which does not have a lacrosse team but live in either the Shorewood or Whitefish Bay school districts. The team is divided into a Varsity and Junior Varsity teams.  The Lakeshore Team is supported by the Shorewood-Whitefish Bay youth recreation program which feeds into the respective high schools.

OBJECTIVE

The team’s overall objective is to have the student athletes learn to love the game of lacrosse in a safe environment and provide a framework where each athlete can give his best effort, and be rewarded for their success and hard work on and off the field.

CONFERENCE

The Lakeshore Lacrosse Team participates in the Classic 8 Conference.  The Classic 8 Conference consists of 20 teams divided into three divisions. It is managed by a board of Athletic Directors.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Lakeshore Lacrosse Team is a high school “club” team.  We receive a coaching stipend from Whitefish Bay, and certain other sponsorships; however, the majority of the team’s expenses are financially supported by team fees and fundraising efforts from parents and players.  The Lakeshore Lacrosse club is a volunteer run organization. It is governed by a Board of Directors. All Board Members are parent volunteers.

PLAYER REGISTRATION

US Lacrosse

All current and new players must be registered with US Lacrosse under the name Lakeshore Lacrosse (http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership.aspx)  and have a US Lacrosse number valid through June 30, 2020.  US Lacrosse provides certain insurance coverages for players and teams. A player without a US Lacrosse membership number will not be able to complete the online registration.

Online Registration

Each player will be required to complete an online registration through their school (including concussion forms) as well as complete a short team registration form.

Fees

  • $450 per player for new and returning players.  In the past, (and likely next year) the fee was different for new and returning players. This year’s fee includes a fee for new helmets (that the players can keep). We are also investing in new uniforms with the new logos. The team will retain ownership of the uniforms.

  • Payment plans and scholarships available.  Requests must be submitted to the board prior to the first practice.

Fees are applied toward coaches’ salaries, uniforms, practice jerseys, C8 and WLF fees, facility usage, referees, busses etc. Fundraising efforts make up any differences between income and expenses. The team will no longer require a mandate for an individual fundraising minimum. In 2018, for example, this was $250 per player.

Registration and fee payment must be complete before a player will be allowed to practice, unless a scholarship or payment plan has been approved by the Board of Directors.  If at all possible, please bring the check(s) to the registration meeting. Make checks out to Lakeshore Lacrosse and include the player’s name in the memo line.

VOLUNTEER OBLIGATION

The Lakeshore Lacrosse Club is run by parent volunteers.  To ensure the team’s success, every family is required to participate.  Each family will be asked to volunteer at the JV and/or Varsity games. Each family will be required to work at least three (3) games during the season.  If you have more than one player on the team, you will be required to work three games per player. Responsibilities will include scoreboard operation, video, concessions, and field level clock keeper. Holding a board position, acting as committee chairperson, or helping with a team dinner does not exempt the family from this volunteer obligation.  A sign up (signupgenius.com) will be sent to families via email at the beginning of the season so that you may select games that coordinate with your schedule. However, if you do not sign up by the first game of the season, you may be assigned volunteer slots. It is each family’s responsibility to fill their slot if a conflict arises. Past seasons have included a check to be written to the club that was destroyed upon completion of volunteer obligations.  This year, with the investment in a service that tracks player stats from video tape, we no longer need stats keepers and spotters. Based on this we have decided not to collect checks at the beginning of the season. If we do not have enough volunteers, we may re-institute that practice in the future. Please help us avoid that.

REGISTRATION FEE REFUNDS

Should a player decide to no longer participate on the team prior to April 15th, Lakeshore Lacrosse Club will refund one half of that player’s registration fee.  No volunteer fee will be assessed for any outstanding volunteer obligation. After April 15, no refund of the registration fee will be given regardless of the reason for the player’s withdrawal or removal from the team.

TRANSPORTATION TO GAMES

With the support from WFBHS, all athletes need to receive a ride from a parent or guardian to and from each game. We will be providing buses to far away game. More information to follow.
